This Change Transformed My Business and Increased My Productivity

In the last blog post I discussed how getting rid of television has helped increase my productivity. In today’s post I am going to expand on that and talk about the technique I used to take me from wanting to do internet marketing to actually acting on it.

I created my own workspace.

In my apartment I have a second bedroom. The first month I lived here I tried doing all of my work from the couch like I always have. I’d sit down, pull up my laptop, and start writing. I would spend hours working and only see small gains. When I started working through Alex Jeffreys Marketing With Alex program, I started on the couch as well. I was doing all of the learning and none of the acting. I realized that something needed to change, so I cleaned off my desk in the spare bedroom and tried working from there.

After two days in my new office I had gotten more work done than the whole last month. I had eliminated most of the distractions that came with sitting on the couch to do my work. I was working more efficiently and i was able to focus better. There was also a mental shift. When I was in my “office” I was there to work. Playing could happen later. This website would probably still only be a twinkle in my eye instead of the start of something awesome. I would still be on the couch, frustrated and no closer to making a living online.

Some of you may not have a spare bedroom to call your own. You may also have families and many more distractions than I have. What you can do is find a place that you can designate as your work space. Growing up I watched my mom use the living room table as her work space. You could disturb her, but only if it was urgent. She was never rude or abrupt with us. She did, however, make it very clear that she had work to do. If it could wait until she was finished, then it did. The important part is to communicate with those around you.

If you are having problems getting things done, try creating your own workspace. Who knows, maybe you will find that you can focus better and get things done more efficiently as well.
